Name the filter and choose whether to create a single select, multiple select, date, or true/false filter. Alternatively, select a filter from the library.

Before you begin

Role required: In the in-line editor, you must be the dashboard owner or have had editing rights shared with you. In the technical editor, the ui_builder_admin role is required. To save a filter to the library or create a filter in the Filter designer, you need the analytics_filter_admin role.

Procedure

  1. Locate the dashboard in the Analytics Center or the dashboards page and open it for editing, as described in Edit dashboards in a configurable workspace.
The results depend on whether the dashboard was created in the in-line editor or the technical editor. If it was created in the technical editor, the dashboard opens in the UI Builder. Otherwise, it opens in the in-line editor on your workspace. The technical editor is available only to users with the ui_builder_admin role.
  2. Add a Filter component, as follows:
    • Navigate to the Filter library and select New to open the Filter designer.

To open the Filter library, select the List icon () and then navigate to Library > Filters.

    • Open the in-line editor, select Add new element and add a filter element.
    • Open the technical editor and proceed as described in Add and configure components.

If you are in the technical editor, consider using the Filter component reference on the Developer Site. This reference includes a description of each configuration field and general usage information that does not only apply to dashboards.

  3. Select New filter or Saved filter.
    • Select New filter to create a filter from scratch.
    • Select Saved filter to reuse a filter from the library.
When you select New filter, The Configuration panel opens for the selected filter. When you select Saved filter, you can choose an existing filter to add to the dashboard.
  4. If you are creating a new filter, select the type of data to filter.

Other configuration options vary depending on the data type you select.

    • Single select: A single value from a set of choices. Single select is the default filter type.
    • Multiple select: More than one value from a set of choices, such as both High and Critical Priority
    • Date: A calendar date. You can also set a time. Automatically applies to all indicator data on page or tab.
    • True/False: Whether a field value is true or false. Can also be used with indicator breakdowns that are based on a bucket group with only two values.
  5. In the Filter label field, type a meaningful name for the filter.
This name is the name that the runtime user sees.

What to do next

Continue configuring the filter according to the filter type.
