Accessibility release notes

ServiceNow® platform accessibility enhancements and updates in the Kingston release.

Accessibility has been improved throughout the platform in congruence with WCAG 2.0 level A and AA standards to make the system more perceivable, operable, and understandable to all users. Changes to accessibility that are feature-specific can be found in the documentation for that feature.

Activation information

The platform is accessible by default. No additional configuration is needed. However, users can enable a user preference to make the platform more accessible.

Enable accessibility
Turns on tabbing for every item on a page and enables the option to skip to different places on a page. Users can enable this option individually on the General tab of the system settings menu. Administrators can also enable this preference for users by navigating to User Administration > User Preferences and searching for the preference glide.ui.accessibility.

Browser requirements

Some keyboard shortcuts and tab-through are browser-specific. See your specific browser documentation for more information.

New in the Kingston release

UI properties tooltips icon
A tooltip icon appears next to items in a properties page that displays the property name.
Reference icon preview
Clicking a reference icon (Information icon that appears next to an item in a list) opens a preview with the option to the open the record in another window, regardless of whether the user is viewing a form or a list in List v2 or List v3. The reference icon preview functionality makes for a more consistent experience across the platform, as well as being more accessible to all users, including tablet users. There is no way to switch back to the previous functionality.

Changed in this release

  • Keyboard accessibility improvements:
    • Tabbing away from an incompletely filled reference field, clears the incomplete value.
    • The inline edit mode skip link provides users with different options for editing fields in a table. Pressing Enter allows the user to edit the field. Pressing the spacebar opens the field context menu. Pressing Escape exits inline edit mode.
    • Improvements to drag and drop functionality.
    • Tabbing in the application navigator moves the user through every option, including the Edit and Favorite icons. To skip the extra icon announcements, users can use the up and down arrow keys to move through the navigator.
  • Improvements for screen readers:
    • Updates to field labels to make screen readers more accurate.
    • Added labels to describe if fields are mandatory.
