Create an ODBC user

All ODBC queries must be performed as a ServiceNow user.

About this task

This user must have the soap role and any other roles that are required to read the tables you want to query. An administrator can create a user within the ServiceNow instance for ODBC queries:

  1. Create a new user.
  2. Give the new user the soap_query or odbc role.
  3. Give the user any roles needed to view records on the tables you want to query.
The odbc role provides a convenient way to grant access to an instance through the ODBC driver. This role contains soap_query role needed to make ODBC requests, and the itil role needed to access core tables such as Incident. You can modify the odbc role to allow access to other tables as needed by adding additional child roles.
