Create a community content type

Create content types such as questions, answers, and blogs for a community.

Before you begin

  1. Create a table to store the data related to the content type. For example, sn_communities_blog. You can also use an existing table.
  2. Create a field with the following information:
    Field name Entry
    Column label (this label becomes the field name) Content
    Type Reference
    Reference sn_communities_content
  3. Add access control lists (ACLs) to the table, for example, create, read, or write, to determine who has access to and can work with this table.

About this task

Adding or modifying content types impact the entire community and caution should be taken when adding or modifying. Content types can be set as active or inactive at the community level and forum level.


  1. Navigate to Community > Administration > Content Types.
  2. Click New.
  3. On the form, fill in the fields.
    Table 1. Content Type form
    Field Description
    Name Name of the content type.
    Table Name The table that you created or want to use that corresponds to the content type. For example, [sn_communities_blog].
    Category A list to indicate whether a content type is primary or secondary. Comments and answers are examples of secondary content types.
    Active Check box to indicate that the content type is active at community level. You can add active content types to the Content Types related list for a selected forum.
    Search Source The category displayed when users search for this content type.
    Icon A PNG or JPG image can be dragged to this field. This image is displayed when users see this content type.
  4. Click Submit.
    The content type is created and added to the Content Types list.
