Define the connectivity section

Define a set of discovery steps to discover outbound connections of a configuration item (CI).

Before you begin

Create a pattern or select a pattern that you want to modify as described in Create an empty pattern.

Perform the procedure described in Define the identification section.

Role required: admin or sm_admin

About this task

A connectivity section identifies a type of outgoing connection. CIs can have multiple outgoing connections. Configure a separate connectivity section for each type of outgoing connection. For example, a .NET application CI can have outgoing connections of several types: ADO.NET, XML Web Services, or .NET. So, you must add connectivity sections for these three types to the .NET Application pattern.


  1. In the Pattern Designer Pattern window, click + in the Connectivity Sections pane to create a connectivity section.

  2. Enter the name and select Create New.
    The new connectivity section appears in the Connectivity Sections pane.
  3. Double-click the created connectivity section.
    The Connectivity Section window opens.
  4. Create the connection to this CI as described in Provide connection information.
  5. Click the plus icon to create an additional section.
  6. Define pattern variables for this section.
  7. Define discovery steps as described in Define discovery steps.
  8. If necessary, create more connectivity sections.
  9. Click the Back to pattern link.

  10. Click Save.
  11. Click Activate.
