User interface release notes User interface product enhancements and updates in the Geneva release. Activation information UI16 is the default user interface for new instances. For upgraded instances, an administrator may need to activate UI16. For previous UIs, UI15 is the default user interface for upgraded instances, and UI11 is activated but disabled by default. New in the Geneva release for UI16 UI16 The UI16 interface is available in supported browsers and is enabled by default for new instances. UI16 provides usability improvements and design changes, including an enhanced application navigator, new themes, and updated icons. For upgraded instances, administrators may need to activate UI16. Favorites The application navigator contains a tab for favorites. UI16 favorites provide an improved way to save frequently used items, much like bookmarks in previous UIs. Navigation history The application navigator contains a tab for navigation history. The navigation history lists recently accessed items, like lists and forms. Global user presence User presence makes it easy to see who is online. A green dot appears on a user's avatar when he or she is online. User avatars are used in multiple places, including activity streams, live feeds, and Connect conversations. The form header displays an indicator when other users are viewing the record. Real time form updates On forms, fields update dynamically to show changes made by other users. Conflict warnings prevent users from accidentally overwriting each other's work. User Guide The User Guide provides in-product help topics for end users. You can edit the provided topics or create new ones. For upgraded instances, administrators may need to activate the User Guide plugin. Checklist formatter The checklist formatter can be added to forms to track the progress of tasks without creating additional records. The checklist formatter is available by default for new instances. For upgraded instances, administrators may need to activate the Checklist plugin. Template bar The template bar appears at the bottom of forms and provides shortcuts to apply, edit, and create templates. Changed in the Geneva release for UI16 Split pane browsing (split view) is not possible in UI16. In the banner frame, the Impersonate User, Elevate Roles, and Logout options are consolidated under the user menu. The help icon () is located in the banner frame for easy access. Clicking the icon opens a menu with multiple help options. The gear icon in the banner frame opens system settings in a pop-up window. Settings are reorganized for a better experience. The Edge is removed. The collapsed view of the application navigator is similar to the Edge and displays your favorites. The full URL displays intentionally so users can copy a part of the page or record and know which part of the system they are in. For example, a table list, UI page, or record. Fields are added to the Bookmark [sys_ui_bookmark] table to support various aspects of UI16 favorites. The Bookmark Group [sys_ui_bookmark_group] table is added to support the creation of UI16 favorites for all the modules under an application menu. Any bookmarks you created in a previous version of the UI are automatically converted to UI16 favorites. However, UI15 favorites are not converted to UI16 favorites and must be recreated manually. In the application navigator, double-click the all applications tab () to collapse or expand all applications. The following capabilities are removed from the application navigator: Switching perspectives. Refreshing the navigator. Right-clicking application menus or modules to edit them. In lists, the context menu for each column is indicated by the standard menu icon () instead of a down arrow icon. On forms, the following options are consolidated under the more information icon () in the form header. Email Toggle Template Bar Toggle annotations Tags On forms, the activity stream icon () in the form header shifts focus to the activity stream on the form instead of opening a flyout. Activity streams are enhanced in the following ways. Unless otherwise noted, the enhancements apply to both the list and form view of activity streams. Attachments appear in the activity stream. User avatars appear by activities. The avatar right-click menu provides quick links to view the user's profile or start a Connect Chat conversation (if Connect is enabled). User presence indicators appear below the journal fields associated with the activity stream. Activity streams associated with multiple journal fields display only one journal field at a time by default. You can select a different journal field to appear using the check box or drop-down list below the field. Click the show all journal fields icon () to display all journal fields at once. On lists, you can add comments directly from the activity stream. On lists, you can click an entry to open the activity stream for that record. You can open the record from this view. On forms, updates display in real time, without refreshing the form. The glide.history.max_entries property sets the maximum number of activity stream entries to show on the form. Tabbed forms are enabled by default for new instances. New properties are available to customize the instance appearance in UI16. Administrators can access some of these properties in the Basic Configuration UI16 module. New themes are available for UI16. A new value is added to the Device field on the Theme [sys_ui_theme] table to support UI16 themes. Modules with the HTML (from Arguments) link type are not supported in UI16. The addInfoMessage message displays on your screen permanently until you click to close the message. When a user points to a journal field, a dot appears inbetween the name of the journal field (for example, work notes) and the date the journal field was added. New in the Geneva release for UI15 Template bar The template bar appears at the bottom of forms and provides shortcuts to apply, edit, and create templates. Changed in the Geneva release for UI15 Tabbed forms are enabled by default for new instances.
