Perform a scenario analysis of your services in the Operational Resilience application so that you can understand what the impact of the associated events and possible disruptions might be to your organization. After analyzing the scenario events, you can determine if any of your services are breached.

Before you begin

Role required: sn_oper_res.manager

About this task

If you have the sn_oper_res.manager role, you can create and publish an analysis. Only the owner of the scenario analysis and the user with the sn_oper_res.admin role can edit the analysis. After you review the analysis, you can request an approval. When the analysis is in the Approved state​, you can close it.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to All > Operational Resilience > All Scenario Analyses and click New.
  2. In the Name field, enter the name of the scenario analysis record.

    The logged-in user is set as the owner of the scenario analysis record and the state of the scenario analysis is updated to Draft by default. The Summary panel displays the detailed information on the services, disruption, and events that are associated with the scenario analysis.

  3. In the Plan-approver field, select the plan-approver for the scenario analysis:
    • Click New to add a new user record for the plan-approver by using the lookup list.
    • Click Submit.

  4. In the Services related list, associate at least one service with the scenario.
  5. Click Begin analysis.
    If you begin analysis without associating at least one service with the scenario, the following informational message is displayed: Associate at least one service to begin the analysis. In the Summary panel, the number of services, the number of services under impact tolerance, and the number of services over impact tolerance are updated.   6. In the Plan-approver field, assign the plan approver for the scenario analysis.
  7. In the Plan-approver field, assign the result approver for the scenario analysis.
  8. In the Actual start date field, enter the actual start date for the analysis.
  9. Add a participant to the scenario analysis.
    You can add a participant to the scenario analysis as shown in the following example.

  10. Add a scenario event to the scenario analysis.
    You can associate one or more events to the scenario as shown in the following example.

  11. Click the scenario event and open its information record in the Scenario Events related list.

    If you are the owner of the analysis, you can collect the observations, gaps, and recommendations from all the participants and update the information by performing the following tasks:

    • In the Impact panel, review and update the dates and duration in the Potential start date time, Potential end date time, and Duration fields.
    • In the Notes panel, add your observations, gaps, and recommendations about the scenario analysis event in the Observation, Gap, and Recommendation fields.
    • To add your observations and recommendations in the application, click Update as shown in the following example.

  12. In the Events related list, close all the scenario events before you request the result approval.
  13. Click Request result-approval.

    In the Summary and Activities panel of the Scenario Analysis form, the details about the service and work notes are updated as shown in the following examples.

  14. Click Request plan-approval.

Result

The scenario analysis that you have requested an approval for is displayed in the Scenario Analyses list view in the application UI.
