The ServiceNow® Sidebar application enables agents and subject matter experts to collaborate when addressing user issues. Sidebar was enhanced and updated in the Vancouver release.
Sidebar highlights for the Vancouver release
- Sidebar records can support more than one discussion.
- Sidebar icons for Microsoft Teams users and ServiceNow® users enable you to easily differentiate between the two types of users.
- Improved user interface for admins to manage when Microsoft Teams group chats are created.

New in the Vancouver release
- Differentiation between Sidebar users and Microsoft Teams users
- Sidebar differentiates between Microsoft Teams users and ServiceNow® users within Sidebar discussions.
- Sidebar records supports multiple discussions
- Create multiple discussions on a record.
- Integration with activity stream automatically enabled
- Sidebar's integration with the activity stream is automatically enabled.
- Unsent messages to Microsoft Teams group chats are flagged with an error message
- If Sidebar is unable to send a message to a Microsoft Teams group chat, an inline error message indicates that the message was not sent.
- Microsoft teams group chat creations are managed using a new administrative feature
- Admins can manage Microsoft Teams group chat creations using an improved interface.
UI changes
- New user interface (UI)
- The Sidebar settings page was changed to use the Next Experience UI and styling. Settings can now be accessed from the Sidebar tile in the Conversational Interfaces Admin Experience home page.
Changed in this release
- Enhanced support for domain separation
- Domain separation support was enhanced to enable the admin to turn on or turn off Sidebar by domain.
- Ability to send large attachments to Microsoft Teams
- Sidebar can send attachments larger than 4 MB to Microsoft Teams.
Activation information
Install Sidebar by requesting it from the ServiceNow Store. Visit the ServiceNow Store website to view all the available apps and for information about submitting requests to the store. Accessibility information
- Support for Invisible Controls
The sn-collab-chat component was updated to automatically display controls that are not normally visible when the "Show all buttons without the need to hover" accessibility user preference is turned on.
This enhancement supports users with cognitive and physical disabilities, such as low vision or mobility limitations, who use the ServiceNow platform. For more information, see Configure Next Experience accessibility preferences.
