The Vancouver release is no longer supported. As such, the product documentation and release notes are provided for informational purposes only, and will not be updated.
The ServiceNow® App Engine Studio (AES) application enables creators of varying skill levels to easily build applications that meet the immediate needs of your organization. App Engine Studio was enhanced and updated in the Vancouver release.
App Engine Studio highlights for the Vancouver release
- Manage resources effectively by scheduling app deployments in App Engine Management Center (AEMC).
- Enhance testing capabilities by adding custom instance scan and automated test framework (ATF) suites to the suite of instance and ATF scans provided in AEMC.
- Take advantage of faster, improved analysis and accessibility when using Analytics Center for Workspace Builder.
- Use the OAuth credential type to create credential records for use in your pipelines.
- As of App Engine Management Center version 24.1.1, integrate existing Change Management and Configuration Management Database (CMDB) programs with AEMC.

New in the Vancouver release
- Enhanced ATF and instance scan testing capabilities in App Engine Management Center (AEMC
- Run your customized test suites as part of an application deployment in addition to the standard instance scan and ATF testing suites in AEMC.
- Schedule app deployments in AEMC
- When you approve an application deployment request to move an app through to your production instance, either deploy it immediately or schedule the deployment for a future time.
- Unique URLs for Workspace Builder dashboards
- Bookmark dashboards created in Workspace Builder now have unique URLs.
- Add oversight into the app development process with Change Management
- As of App Engine Management Center version 24.1.1, add an extra layer of oversight into your app development process by integrating existing Change Management processes with AEMC.
- Register applications as configuration items with Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and AEMC
- As of App Engine Management Center version 24.1.1, register each new application as a configuration item by integrating an existing Configuration Management Database (CMDB) program with AEMC.
- Understand licensing and subscription implications during app development with new licensing data in AEMC
- As of AEMC version 24.1.1, use new licensing data to gain visibility into the licensing and subscription implications for roles in each application you create.
UI changes
- Clarified modal for data visualizations in Workspace Builder
- Add a data visualization to a workspace through a guided streamlined process. You can select between new visualizations or reuse saved components that an administrator created.
- AES home page new tile and link locations
- Several changes have been made to the AES home page for improved navigation:
- Easily add an app using the new Create an app tile in the Quick start section of the AES home page.
- The label for the tile to add logic and automation been renamed Add an automated flow.
- The label for your applications has been renamed Your apps.
- Streamlined UI for adding variables to email notifications
- Add variables to email notifications in AES through an improved Email variables selector displayed in a separate panel next to the message composition box.
- AES guidance more tailored to your experience
- Receive context-specific guidance in AES for the area that you're working on, such as adding data tables or automation. The first time you use the guidance, you're stepped linearly through the entire process of creating an application. After that, the guidance displays assistance related to what you're working on or you can hide the guidance.
- Sort AES tables, experiences, automation, and security
- Sort items in sections on the home page for an app in AES if there are more than three items per section (such as tables or experiences) alphabetically or in date order.
- Select the theme for a workspace in Workspace Builder
- Select a theme for the workspace when editing general settings in Workspace Builder.
- Dashboard enhancements in Workspace Builder
- The experience in creating and modifying home pages in Workspace Builder is now easier to use.
- Quickly find your search configuration in Workspace Builder
- As of release 24.1.2, the Search configuration setting in Workspace Builder is a type-ahead field instead of a drop-down menu, enabling you to find your preferred search configuration faster.Note: As you type, the Now Platform displays search configurations for the app you're working on in AES. However, all search configurations on the instance are available for you to select.
- Clarified error messaging for mandatory fields in Workspace Builder
- As of release 24.1.2, when mandatory fields are empty or improperly completed, Workspace Builder highlights them and provides an error message for guidance.

- Get faster, more intuitive search results in Workspace Builder by enabling AI Search for a workspace.
- Select multiple facet values simultaneously and apply the selected value using condition builder.
- Open search results in a new tab.
- Support for dark mode.
- View parent documents with linked attachments, which you can download.
- View the number of search results per tab.
- Find tables faster in Workspace Builder
- When you search for tables in a workspace built using the AES wizard, the Now Platform lists more legible names and descriptions for the tables. It also organizes the available tables into two sections: tables that are already in your app, and all tables outside the app scope.
- Improved performance when using AES
- As of release 24.1.2, the load times for AES and its apps have been reduced, enabling you to build apps faster.
- Find tables faster when creating email notifications
- As of release 24.1.2, when you search for tables when creating an email notification in AES, the Now Platform lists recommended tables. It also organizes the available tables into three sections: tables that are already in your app, recommended tables, and all tables outside the app scope.
- Updated Analytics Center for Workspace Builder
- Current, refreshed content is displayed in the Analytics Center in Workspace Builder.
- More information is included on the cards for Analytics Center, such as actionable items.
- Updated theme for all email notifications in some AES predefined templates
- The branding, layout, and color themes for all email notifications in the Time off and Cost approval AES templates was updated.
- Improved performance across all predefined templates in AES
- Performance improvements have been made for all AES templates.
- Use OAuth credentials in your pipelines
- The OAuth credential type is supported for creating pipeline credential records beginning with the Rome release.
Activation information
Install App Engine Studio by requesting it from the ServiceNow Store. Visit the ServiceNow Store website to view all the available apps and for information about submitting requests to the store. Accessibility information
- Support for Forced Colors in Workspace Builder
- The Analytics Center and dashboards in Workspace Builder now support Forced Colors, a mechanism that is most commonly activated through an operating system setting for Forced Colors/High Contrast Themes. This enhancement enables users to customize the colors of their user interface and web content to meet their individual visual needs. For example, users with low vision might enable Forced Colors to help them successfully view the user interface.
- Improved keyboard navigation in Workspace Builder
- As of release 24.1.2, you can use the keyboard to do the following:
- Drag and drop components and ribbon components in the contextual side panel to rearrange them, as well as selected tables in the workspace settings record navigation.
- Tab through items in the navigation panel, such as Home and List, with improved screen reader support.
