The Vancouver release is no longer supported. As such, the product documentation and release notes are provided for informational purposes only, and will not be updated.
The ServiceNow® AI Search application provides a consumer-grade search experience for Now Platform users. AI Search was enhanced and updated in the Vancouver release.
AI Search highlights for the Vancouver release
- Streamline the user search experience by enabling search result counts, displaying results for attachment results as part of their parent record, and opening search results in new browser tabs.
- Refine search results more flexibly with multi-select facet filters, displaying results that contain any or all of the selected field values.
- Improve recall for multilingual Knowledge article search by mapping search languages to user countries.
- Expand search to include content from your Active Server Page Extended (.aspx) documents and attachments.
See AI Search for more information.
Important information for upgrading AI Search to Vancouver
- When you upgrade to Vancouver from an earlier release, AI Search automatically reindexes non-Task tables to allow for display of attachment search results with their parent record, but doesn't automatically reindex the Task [task] table and its child tables. Before
you can display Task record attachment search results with their parent records, you must manually reindex the Task [task] table. For details on reindexing a table, see Perform a full table index or reindex for a single indexed source. Note: Reindexing the Task table can take some time.
- After you upgrade to Vancouver from an earlier release, you can optionally republish your search profiles that contain result improvement rules with block and promote actions. Republishing these search profiles resolves an issue where result improvement rules could fail to block or promote translated search results correctly. For instructions on republishing a search profile, see Publish a search profile. To learn more about how AI Search handles translated content, see Internationalization support for AI Search.
New in the Vancouver release
- Display search result counts in Service Portal and global search
- Streamline the search experience by displaying search result counts on the results page for ServiceNow® Service Portal, ServiceNow® Employee Service Center, global and workspace search, and other search applications that use Seismic portal components.
- Group attachment search results with their parent records
- Unify the search experience by displaying attachment search results as part of the search results for their parent records. When this option is enabled for a search application, users can view all attachments that match their search on the parent record, instead of needing to collate information from multiple search results.
- Open search results in new browser tabs
- View a search result's source record in a new browser tab, preserving the state of your search in the current tab, by selecting the result's Open in New Tab icon (
).
- Apply complex search filters with multi-select facets
- Improve search filtering flexibility by configuring your search application facets as Multi Select Or or Multi Select And. With these facet types, you can select multiple field values. Selection filters your search results, showing only results that contain any or all of the selected field values.
- Assign Knowledge article search languages for user countries
- Improve multilingual search recall by defining a set of Knowledge article search languages for each user country. Searches can match Knowledge articles in any of the languages specified for the user's country as well as in the language associated with their Now Platform session.
- Support for Active Server Page Extended (.aspx) file format
- Expand your search experience with content from Active Server Page Extended (.aspx) documents and attachments.
UI changes
- AI Search Results Improvement Rule form
- The Triggers field selector has been updated to display only fields usable in result improvement rule trigger conditions. Each User Context field option now displays the name of its source table field.
- Search Application Configuration form
- The form has been updated to display Enable Exact Match, Show parent for results that are attachments, and Show Search Results Count fields.
- Single Select and Multi Select facet field values
- The UI for facet filters displays Single Select facet field values as links, allowing only a single selection. Multi Select And and Multi Select Or facets still display facet field values as options, allowing multiple selections.
- Cross-table facets displayed on All navigation tab in global and workspace search
- On the global and workspace search results page, the All navigation tab now displays facets that filter on cross-table fields such as Tags or Language.
Changed in this release
- Wildcard operators % and * ignore stop word expansions
- Search query terms that contain % or * wildcard operators no longer expand to match terms that are defined as stop words.
- Q&A Genius Results activated by default
- Q&A Genius Results are enabled in the base system and no longer require activation.
- Search query parameter evaluation framework
- When tuning a new relevancy model candidate, machine learning relevancy performs A/B testing evaluations of live search traffic, comparing search query relevancy for the existing model and the new candidate model. AI Search only applies the new candidate model if it outperforms the existing model in these A/B testing evaluations.
