The ServiceNow® Document Intelligence application is an artificial intelligence (AI) solution that quickly and accurately categorizes and extracts information from documents. Document Intelligence was enhanced and updated in the Vancouver release.
Document Intelligence highlights for the Vancouver release
- Increase efficiency and automation by using the new document classifier features to categorize documents.
- Leverage data that is automatically transformed by DocIntel into a standardized format.
- Support finer-grained automation of document processing by defining a document’s required fields.
- Save time setting up DocIntel by copying and importing trained use cases.
- Install document extraction and classification features easily as a single plugin.

Important information for upgrading Document Intelligence to Vancouver
Document Intelligence 3.0 and later includes an updated schema to support its transition from a scoped application to a Now Platform plugin. For upgrade details, see Upgrade to Document Intelligence 3.0 or later from version 2.4 or earlier.
New in the Vancouver release
- Duplicate, export, and import use cases
Easily copy, export, and import trained use cases right from the use case page.
- New document classification features
- Expedite the classification of documents by:
- defining document categories.
- labeling documents.
- setting up and training a document classification model.
- verifying or correcting classification predictions.
- Draw tool for data extraction
- Extract data from tables easily using the draw tool to select a document area and extract the information.
UI changes
- Terminology changes
The straight-through-processing setting is described as full automation. Additional labels are updated to reflect terminology updates made in the Utah release.
- Usability improvements
- Various features throughout Document Intelligence are updated to create a more consistent user experience.
- In-product help
- Help text is added for several features to provide guidance using Document Intelligence.

- Required fields
- Define a document’s required fields to support the full automation of document processing.
- Data normalization
- Standardize data extracted from documents with the following improvements:
- Base system support to transform common field types (dates, numbers) into a normalized format.
- Interface for agents to visualize applied normalizations and modify them as needed.
- Integration setup approach to seamlessly transfer normalized data to a workflow.
- Increase to default limits
- The file size limit for attachments is increased to 10 MB. The maximum number of document tasks processed per instance per day is increased to 2,000.
- Improvements to AI quality for invoices
- Improve extraction outcomes by leveraging more powerful AI models, prebuilt use case configurations, and user-defined hints.
Activation information
Install Document Intelligence by requesting it from the ServiceNow Store. Visit the ServiceNow Store website to view all the available apps and for information about submitting requests to the store. The Document Intelligence application (sn_docintel) depends on the Document Intelligence plugin (com.glide.platform_ml_di), Predictive Intelligence (com.glide.platform_ml), and Document Intelligence UIB Component (com.sn_docintel_iframe). Accessibility information
- Dark theme
- Enable a dark theme or mode in Document Intelligence. This option is commonly used to alleviate eye strain and improve readability.
- General accessibility enhancements
- Various Document Intelligence features were updated to create a more accessible user experience.
- Updated controls and messages to provide correct labels and other relevant information to Assistive Technology users (for example, screen reader users).
- Provided alternative text for informative images and icons so that the purpose of those images is conveyed to Assistive Technology users.
- Improved color contrast for text and images to meet minimum standard guidelines:
- Regular sized text has a minimum contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1.
- Graphics and user-interface components have a minimum contrast ratio of at least 3:1.
- Standardized design patterns for components to improve screen reader detection.
- Updated Call to actions (CTAs) and tooltips so they can be dismissed via a keyboard – for example, using the Escape key - without moving a mouse or pointer.
- Corrected focus order issue with Auto-fill mode check box controls.
- Corrected focus order issue with the Auto-fill mode thumbnail sidebar.
- Updated Auto-fill mode – Custom Select to provide additional visual cues to convey selected state info, instead of using color only to convey the information.
- Updated Auto-fill mode – Custom Select to programmatically indicate the ABC toggle control’s selected state.
- Updated so that text size can be increased to 200% through your browser settings without loss of content or functionality.
- Updated to allow changes to text spacing without loss of content or functionality. For example, some users apply custom text spacing styles to browser content to improve readability.
Localization information
Document Intelligence added support for documents in Czech, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish. For more details, see Hard limits in Document Intelligence.
