    Event Management release notes

ServiceNow® Event Management product enhancements and updates in the Paris release.

Event Management helps you to identify health issues across the datacenter on a single management console. It provides alert aggregation for discovered services, application services, and automated alert groups.

    New in the Paris release

    Landing page for alerts
Use the Overview tab on the alert form in ServiceNow® Operator Workspace as a landing page when selecting an alert from the alerts list. The information displayed on the tab varies, depending on the type of alert you are viewing.
On the Overview tab, a notification message for the alert appears if both of the following are true:
    • The alert priority is High or Urgent.
    • The alert has impacted services.

The Overview tab appears only for alerts with an assigned CI.

    Probable root cause analysis (RCA)
Root cause analysis (RCA) provides a list of probable root causes for alerts or alert groups, or both. It correlates alerts and change requests with relevant CIs, based on CI topology. It then calculates the root cause score to identify probable root causes. The root cause score is used to prioritize probable root causes on the list. Its calculation is based on change requests, alerts, and CI topology, and refined using configurable filters.
    Dynamic alert form layout
The tabs and sections that appear on the Alert form in Operator Workspace vary, depending on the type of alert that is selected. Only tabs relevant to the selected alert type appear.
    NLP-based alert groups
Event Management uses clustering models to identify common text patterns in alerts and create alert groups.
Identifying alert groups using generalized patterns
Generate automated alert groups according to either a specific CI or a CI class.
Create a user view in Operator Workspace
Save multiple user views in the Operator Workspace dashboard. Once you save a view, you can access it in a list on the Operator Workspace dashboard. You can create the following view types:
    • Private: Created by and visible only to the user that is logged in.
    • Global: Created by an Event Management administrator; visible to all users.

    Changed in this release

    Probable root cause analysis (RCA)
Probable root cause analysis (RCA) replaces Root cause analysis (RCA). This capability has been separated from Alert aggregation.
Enhancements to the Alert Intelligence alert form
When selecting an alert from the Alert Intelligence alerts list:
    • The Actions section on the right side of the alert's Details form replaces the Actions button.
    • The Secondary alerts tab has been renamed Alerts in group. The Alerts in group tab displays all alerts that are part of the alert group in addition to secondary alerts.
Improved language clarity for events and alerts in self-health jobs
The language describing events and alerts in the Event Management - Insert health monitor and Event Management - Update health monitor jobs has been enhanced.
Improved data collection for Event Management license usage
The Event Management License usage table provides more precise information by collecting data directly from the CIs in alert tables before the event tables.
    Alert priority calculation
Alert priority calculation for group alerts is based on all alerts in the group and not only on the group's primary alert.
    Updated navigation menus
Many of the navigation paths have been modified in Event Management.
    CSDM enhancements
The term Technical services has been replaced with Dynamic CI groups.
    Custom alert state
When a package of events is processed with events containing a custom (non-supported) state, all events in the package are processed except events with the custom state.
New navigation path for alert groups
Access the Alerts group page by navigating to Event Management > Services > Alert queries.
    Unique nodes for license calculation
When calculating the nodes that are eligible for licensing, the Event Management - Node Count job searches for CIs bound to alerts. If there are no CIs bound to alerts, event nodes are used.
