Create a standard change proposal

You can create standard change proposals to be evaluated for approval before being included in the standard change catalog.

Before you begin

Role required: itil or change_manager

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Change > Standard Change > My Proposals.
  2. Click New.
  3. Complete the form, as appropriate.

    Field Description
    Category Specify the category to which the template is published.
    Template name Enter an easily identifiable name for the template with which the template is published in the Standard Change Catalog.
    State Specify a state for the new template. The default value is New.
    Proposal type Select New Template from the types of proposals.
    Assignment group Specify the group that works on the proposed template.
    Assigned to Specify the user who works on the proposed template.
    Short description Enter brief text describing the proposal for the template.
    Description Enter text describing the template proposal in detail.
    Business justification Enter text providing the business justification regarding the requirement for this template.
    Sample Change Requests Specify the list of changes that closely resemble the proposed template.
    Change Request values Specify the field values that should get populated on the standard change created from the template.
  4. (Optional) You can create a standard change proposal by navigating to Change > Standard Change > Standard Change Catalog > Template Management > Propose a new Standard Change Template and fill in the fields on the form, as appropriate.

    Field Description
    Short description Specify short description of the standard change proposal template.
    Category Specify the category to which the template is published. For example, Server Standard Changes.
    Sample Change Requests Select existing change requests as an example of the change that you propose. The Change Management team reviews the requests as a part of the approval process.
    Change Request values Enter text in the fields that appear as default text in the standard change proposal template.
  5. Perform one of the following actions:
    • Click Save. The proposal is created with status New.
    • Click Request Approval. The proposal is created in status In Progress.
    Note: You cannot modify a standard change proposal after it is approved.
  6. (Optional) You can create a standard change template from a change that exists by completing the following steps.
    1. Navigate to Change > Open and click the change whose information you want to use in the standard change template.
    2. Open the form context menu and click Propose a Standard Change Template.
    Note: Any change tasks that are included with the change also get copied into the new standard change proposal. The fields copied from both the change and change tasks are defined in Standard Change Properties.
