MID Servers for Cloud Management

One or more MID Servers are required for Cloud Management to communicate with your cloud resources.

Set up MID Servers in the same way that you would for any other applications that use MID Servers, like Discovery and Service Mapping. See MID Server for a start on all the information required to set up and configure MID Servers. The only additional requirement that you need is the Cloud Management capability. See Set up a MID Server for Cloud Management for instructions.

Suggestions for using MID Servers with Cloud Management

Multiple MID Servers
Use multiple MID Servers and MID Server clusters for complex cloud environments, such as multiple cloud accounts with multiple logical datacenters. See Multiple MID Server deployments and MID Server cluster configuration for details.
MID Server location
Locate MID Servers as close to your cloud resources as possible. Putting a MID Server in each logical datacenter can improve performance.
MID Server memory size
Complex cloud environments with several thousands of virtual machines might require more MID Server memory. See MID Server system requirements and Set the MID Server JVM memory size for details. increase memory beyond the minimum requirements if necessary.

Set up a MID Server for Cloud Management

A MID Server is required to bridge the connection between your instance and the cloud resources. Set up the MID Server on your network, or in one of your cloud networks.

Before you begin

  1. Install the MID Server using Guided Setup or by manually downloading and running the installer. See Install a MID Server on Linux and Install a MID Server on Windows.
  2. Test the MID Server connectivity. If you are running the MID Server on a Windows machine, make sure that you configure Windows service credentials.
  3. Add the Cloud Management capability to the MID Server. See Configure MID Server capabilities for instructions. You can also add the ALL capability, which includes the Cloud Management capability.
Note: Do not configure the MID Server Application related list.
