Sprint planning board

The sprint planning board allows the scrum master and group members to view the group backlog, assemble sprints and track group capacity.

The components of sprint planning board are:

Planning board header

The header provides option to select a group for which the sprint planning should be done.

Gauge and points

The assignment group makes its estimate based on the story point system. The total capacity, story points, and capacity gauge are displayed on two cards - one for each backlog. It helps the scrum master to ensure that the allocated story points in the sprint do not exceed the capacity of the group.

  • Points: The labels and values displayed on the cards depend on the backlog selected in backlog list at the bottom. For Group Backlog, the Total points and Selected points for the group are displayed on the corresponding card. For sprint backlog, the Capacity points and Allocated points for the sprint are displayed.
  • Gauge: The gauge is a visual representation of the points displayed on the cards. It shows the amount of group capacity that is committed and the number of points available against the total points of the group.

Backlog lists

Two backlog lists at the bottom of the planning board are available. You can select the required stories in a backlog, and move them to the other backlog.

  • Group backlog: By default, Group Backlog is displayed in the left backlog. However, if you want to move stories from one sprint backlog to another sprint backlog, you can also select a sprint here.
  • Sprint backlog: The backlog for the selected sprint is displayed in the right backlog.
  • Arrow buttons: Use the arrow buttons between the two backlogs to move the selected stories between backlogs.
